Radical Statistics Group Annual Conference
March 3rd-5th, 2006
Hathersage Hostel
Peak District
Are numbers working for you?
Using statistics in campaigns
The conference and AGM will be held at Hathersage
Youth Hostel, which is easily accessible by public transport.
There are regular buses and trains to Hathersage from Sheffield, and those
who wish could attend just for the day. But we have booked the whole hostel
which is in the heart of beautiful Bronte countryside on the White Peak
Way circular walk. So take this opportunity for a weekend in Derbyshire.
View
the facilities. Book early to be sure of a bed in
the hostel, although there will be alternative accommodation close by.
Do not book directly with the hostel. There are a limited number of spaces
in the hostel car-park. View
travel information and map.
The planned sessions are:
- Ray Thomas – Government Spin and Statistics,
with particular reference to labour market statistics
- Jamie Goodwin White and Ludi Simpson - Radical Demography
- Jay Ginn – Must Poverty be Politicised?
- Paul Marchant – Do the claims for spending billions on crime reduction initiatives stand up?
- The First Thirty Years of the Radical Statistics Group and its Future:
open discussion.
- RadStats AGM
People
arriving on Friday night are invited to meet at the Little John, opposite
the hostel, where bar food is available, and on Saturday night we have a block
booking for an evening meal at the Scotsman Pack. On Sunday there will be a
choice of walks followed by a pub lunch.
To book, either download a booking
form and email it to admin@radstats.org.uk to
pay on the day or enclose a cheque and send it to
